Xiaomo Mi Box S Disney Plus Issues

Some Disney+ subscribers are reporting that they end up seeing the Error Code 39 whenever they attempt to watch this streaming service. This error is confirmed to happen with multiple devices including PC, AppleTV, Nvidia Shield, Android, and iOS.

Disney+ Error Code 39

As it turns out, there are several different causes that might end up producing this Disney+ Error Code:

  • Failing Copy-Protection check – If you're only encountering this problem after long idling periods, it's very likely that you see this error code due to the fact that the Disney+ app is failing a copy-protection check. If this scenario is applicable, you should be able to resolve the problem by restarting your device (AppleTV, AndroidTV, Android, iOS or Windows)
  • Corrupted temp data – Another potential instance that might end up causing this problem is a series of corrupted data that is currently being stored in the temp folder. If this scenario is applicable, you should be able to fix the issue by reinstalling the Disney+ app along with every dependency.
  • Resetting Smart TV to factory settings – If you're only seeing this error on an AppleTV or AndroidTV, this problem is likely to be caused by a common glitch with the Disney+ app. In this case, you should be able to fix the issue by resetting your smart TV back to its factory settings and then reinstalling the Disney+ app in a clean environment.
  • Remnant temp file on consoles – If you're only encountering this issue on your console (PS4 or Xbox One), the issue is most likely being caused by a selection of temporary data that the Disney app generates passively. In this case, you can fix the issue by power-cycling your console in order to clear the power-capacitors along with any remnant data.
  • Connected in-game capture device – A different reason that might also end up producing the Error Code 39 on a console is an in-game recording device that allows games to take footage of their gameplay. As it turns out, Disney+ has some very efficient DRM protections that will block any attempting at recording content from their app.
  • Disney+ content is being streamed via splitter – If you are using a splitter to send Disney+ content to a projector, that's probably the reason why you are seeing this error code. This streaming service includes a copyright protection code built directly into the HDMI signal that's used to pass from the console to the outputting device. If this scenario is applicable, you have no choice but to use Disney+ without a splitter.

Method 1: Restarting the device

As it turns out, one of the most common instances that will actually end up causing the Error Code 39on Disney+ is a copy-protection check that ends up failing after the app has spent a long time idling.

This problem will most likely be resolved by Disney eventually, but until then, you can fix it yourself by forcing your affected device to restart in order to clear any temp files from the Disney+ app and clean restart the app.

Of course, depending on the device you're encountering the issue with, the instructions will be different. To make it easier for you, we created a list of instructions for devices that are most affected by this issue.

This operation was confirmed to be effective by a lot of affected users facing a similar scenario.

We've created two separate guides to accommodate both user bases. Follow the sub-guide that is applicable to the TV OS that you are using.

  5. After the operation is complete, reinstall the Disney+ application and see if the issue is now resolved.

In case you still end up seeing the Error Code 39or this fix was not applicable to your device, move down to the next method below.

Method 4: Power-cycling your console (if applicable)

If you are encountering this issue on an Xbox One or Playstation 4, it's very likely that the issue is occurring due to some temporary files that the Disney+ application creates passively. Under certain circumstances, these files might end up creating streaming issues including Error Code 39.

In case this scenario is applicable, you should be able to fix the issue by ensuring that you end up draining the power capacitors of your console and remove any temporary data that might be causing the problem.

To accommodate both user bases, we created two separate guides – one for PS4 and one for Xbox One. Follow whichever guide is applicable to your current situation:

Power-cycling on PS4

  1. Ensure that your PS4 console is fully turned on and not in hibernation mode.
  2. Press and hold the power button (on your console) until the device switches off completely. Let it go only after you hear the fan shutting off completely.
    Power buttons on PS4

Note: If you let go of the power button too early, your console will switch itself into hibernation mode instead.

  3. Once your Playstation 4 is completely turned off, physically plug out the power cord from the outlet and let it sit for at least 30 seconds before plugging it back in in order to ensure that the power capacitors are completely drained.
  4. Start your console once again and wait for the next startup to complete.
  5. Open the Disney+ app once again and see if the issue is now resolved.

Power-cycling on Xbox One

  1. Press and hold on the Xbox power button (on the front of your console). Keep that button pressed for 10 seconds or more (until you see that the front LED is flashing intermittently).
    Performing a hard reset
  2. After your Xbox One console is shut down completely, remove the power cord from it's connected outlet and wait for a full minute to ensure that the power capacitors are drained.
  3. After this time period passed, start your console once again and wait for the boot sequence to complete.
Note: If you see the longer animation logo, it's confirmation that the power-cycling procedure has been succesfull.
  4. Once the next boot is complete, open the Disney+ app once again and see if the issue has been resolved.

Method 5: Removing the in-game capture device (if applicable)

If you are using an in-game capture device to records your gameplay on Xbox One or Playstation 4 (with devices like Elgato), keep in mind that it's a well-known fact that Disney+ and a lot of other streaming app have the potential of conflicting with it.

This is a problem that occurs due to some DRM protections that these streaming apps enforced, and you can also expect to experience similar issues with BluRay Disks and other types of physical media. This is a failsafe way of making sure their content is not being pirated.

As it turns out, Disney+ includes a copyright protection code built directly into the HDMI signal that is used to pass from the console to the outputting device. The Error Code 39 will occur if there is a breakdown in the console and the TV during the process of checking the copyright protection over HDMI.

So in case you are using a game capture device like Elgato, disconnect it from your console and restart your station. Once your console boots back up, open the Disney+ app once again and see if the Error Code 39has been fixed.

Method 6: Removing the projector connection (if applicable)

If you are projecting the content you stream from Disney+ via a projector that's connected via VGA or HDMI, you might need to let go of that connection and hook your console to a TV in order to fix the Error Code 39.

We've managed to identify a lot of user reports that were encountering this exact issue ONLY when they were connected to a projector. We weren't able to confirm this, but it looks like this is yet another security measure to ensure that their content doesn't get leaked.

There are a lot of user reports suggesting that the Disney+ app is running some type of DRM in order to stop people from recording or screen capping their content. Any in-game captures app, projectors or anything else that's using splitters will end up producing this error code.
